Hazardous waste refers to the solid wastes which listed in the National Hazardous Waste List or identified as with hazardous characteristics according to the national hazardous waste identification standards and identification methods. The meaning of hazardous waste should be as follows:

(1) All wastes listed in the National Hazardous Waste List are hazardous wastes, and should be disposed by special control measures and management methods.

(2) Although not listed in the National Hazardous Waste List, according to the national hazardous waste identification standards and identification methods, if a harmful or toxic component in the waste exceeds the standard limit, it is also regarded as hazardous waste.

(3) The form of hazardous waste is not limited to solid state, but also liquid, such as waste acid, waste alkali, waste oil and the like.

(4) Abandoned radioactive materials are not classified as hazardous waste, but should be managed in accordance with the Radioactive Waste Safety Management Regulations.

According to the current National Hazardous Waste List, hazardous waste includes a total of 46 categories of 479 sub-categories. Among them: HW01-HW18 and HW48, HW49 are classified according to the source of hazardous waste. HW19-HW47 is classified according to the components contained in hazardous waste. Hazardous wastes are generally corrosive, toxic, flammable, reactive, and infectious.
